John Zuya, also fondly called John Mai Molo, was a highly respected traditional musician from Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area in Bauchi State. Over the years, he became a household name across Northern Nigeria for his unique blend of humor, deep cultural lyrics, and electrifying stage performances.
Zuya’s songs often carried moral lessons, witty satire, and heartfelt storytelling that resonated with both the young and the old. His ability to blend entertainment with cultural preservation earned him admiration from fans and fellow artists alike.
Events Leading To His Death
Reports indicate that the late musician had recently returned from Lagos on October 16, 2025, where he performed at several cultural events celebrating Northern Nigerian traditions. Sadly, just two days later — on October 18, 2025 — he reportedly fell ill after consuming a suspected poisoned meal in Tafawa Balewa.
He was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where medical personnel battled to save his life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead around 7:00 a.m., leaving behind an irreplaceable void in the music world.
