Rita Daniels, the mother of Nollywood actress and wife of billionaire politician, Regina Daniels, has opened up in an emotional revelation about her daughter’s controversial marriage to businessman and politician, Ned Nwoko. Her confession has stirred mixed reactions online, reigniting conversations about one of Nigeria’s most talked-about unions in the entertainment industry.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Rita Daniels disclosed that she never supported or encouraged her daughter’s decision to marry a man far older than her. According to her, she initially opposed the idea because Regina was just 18 years old at the time, while Ned Nwoko was already in his 60s. Despite her motherly reservations, Regina Daniels insisted on following her heart and stood firm in her decision, leaving her mother with no choice but to eventually accept it.
I Wasn’t Aware When It Started – Rita Says
The veteran actress and producer explained that when news of Regina’s marriage first broke, she faced harsh criticism from the public. Many people accused her of “selling” her daughter to an older man for wealth and fame. However, Rita made it clear that such assumptions were false. She stated that she had no idea when the relationship began and was completely unaware of the seriousness of the bond between Regina and Ned until it was already public.
“When Regina got married and the whole world turned against me, saying I pushed her into it or sold her to an older man, I felt hurt,” she recounted in the interview. “People didn’t know the truth — even I didn’t know when their relationship started. It was a shock to me. I only got to know about it much later.”
She added that she was the last person to find out about her daughter’s relationship with the billionaire, which made the situation even more emotional for her as a mother. The revelation, she said, left her both confused and disappointed because she had expected Regina to consult her before making such a major life decision.
I Had To Stand By Her As A Mother
Rita Daniels further explained that after learning about the relationship, she confronted her daughter to understand what was going on. To her surprise, Regina responded with firmness and even spoke to her in a tone she had never used before. This, according to Rita, was the first time her daughter ever challenged her authority or refused her advice.
“When I found out, I called her and asked, ‘What is happening between you and this man?’ For the first time, Regina spoke to me harshly. I was shocked. That was when I realized that she had made up her mind,” Rita recalled. She said that as much as she disapproved of the relationship at first, she eventually chose to stand by her daughter out of love and support as a mother.
“I decided to stand by her because, at the end of the day, she is my child. Whether I agree or not, my duty is to guide her, protect her, and give her the best advice I can,” she added. Rita explained that although she did not initially bless the marriage, she later accepted her daughter’s choice and decided to support her happiness, especially after seeing that Regina was content and well cared for.
Today, Rita Daniels said she has made peace with Regina’s decision and is proud of how far her daughter has come as a wife, mother, and successful entrepreneur. She emphasized that, as a parent, she had to learn that sometimes children make decisions that may not align with their parents’ expectations, but love and understanding should always prevail.
