Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has officially reacted to Donald Trump’s recent threat to invade Nigeria, breaking his silence amid rising global attention on the issue.
The situation stems from a statement made by Trump on Truth Social, where he vowed to take decisive action against Islamic terrorists allegedly responsible for the ongoing killings of Christians in Nigeria. His comments immediately sparked widespread debate and concern internationally and locally.

Trump further stated that he had directed the United States Department of War to prepare for potential military operations in Nigeria, if the situation escalates or fails to be addressed internally.
Peter Obi Responds to Trump’s Remarks
In a detailed statement released via X (formerly Twitter), Peter Obi strongly condemned the persistent killings of Christians in Nigeria, stressing the urgent need for solid and meaningful intervention to protect lives. According to him, the security situation has deteriorated significantly, and immediate action is essential to restore peace and order.
Obi also used the opportunity to criticize the APC-led government, accusing it of incompetence, lack of patriotism, poor leadership priorities, and failure to deploy resources effectively to secure the nation. He argued that Trump’s threat should serve as a wake-up call to leaders who have failed to uphold their responsibilities to Nigerians.
Below is part of his statement:
“The recent pronouncement by the US government declaring Nigeria a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC) and indicating possible military action should give every well-meaning Nigerian serious concern.”
He further stated that over 10,000 Nigerians have been killed since May 2023 alone, reiterating his stance that the continuous loss of innocent lives is alarming and unacceptable.
“While the insecurity did not start with the present government, what is most unfortunate is the lack and absence of competence, commitment, prudent use of resources, patriotism and passion on the part of APC-led government,” he added.
