President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s security training facilities, signaling intensified efforts to reform and strengthen the nation’s security infrastructure.
The move comes shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a strong warning and threatened potential military action against Nigeria over alleged attacks on Christian communities, a claim that sparked global attention.
Trump had directed the U.S. Department of Defense via his Truth Social platform to begin preparations for a possible strike, escalating diplomatic tensions and drawing reactions from Nigerian authorities.
Tinubu Orders Emergency Overhaul of Training Facilities
According to a report by the Daily Post dated November 4, 2025, the declaration focuses on upgrading and restructuring the training centers of key security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other national security institutions.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who heads the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc committee on security training reforms, confirmed the development during an inspection visit in Lagos.
He emphasized that the reforms aim to modernize security training systems, enhance personnel capacity, and strengthen response capabilities to national security threats.
Tinubu Responds to Trump’s Military Threat
President Tinubu responded firmly to Trump’s remarks, stressing Nigeria’s sovereignty and rejecting intimidation.
In a statement released on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to protecting citizens of all religions and upholding constitutional guarantees of freedom of worship.
He also noted that while Nigeria remains open to international cooperation on matters of religious safety and human rights, the nation “shall remain a sovereign democracy guided by its constitution and the rule of law.”
Tinubu further affirmed readiness to work with the U.S. and other global partners to promote peace, mutual respect, and protection for communities of all faiths.
The federal government’s latest directive signals a renewed emphasis on strengthening internal security at a time of heightened international scrutiny and domestic safety concerns.
