The official presentation event, which took place in Akure, brought together first-class royal fathers and traditional leaders from all 18 local government areas, turning the state capital into a gathering point for culture, authority, and celebration.

Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for keeping his promise and continually recognising the importance of traditional rulers in governance and community development.

He noted that the vehicles were not just tokens of appreciation but symbols of trust, partnership, and honour, adding that the traditional council remains firmly behind the governor in advancing peace, unity, and socioeconomic growth across the state.

The monarchs emphasised that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration had shown genuine commitment to strengthening the influence and welfare of traditional institutions, describing the SUVs as yet another milestone in the state’s collaborative leadership approach.

Aiyedatiwa highlights value of traditional leadership

Addressing the royal fathers, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated that the decision to provide the SUVs stemmed from the government’s recognition of the unique and irreplaceable role of traditional rulers in maintaining order, preserving culture, and mobilising community support for development initiatives.

He assured them that their welfare would continue to remain a top priority, saying his administration views traditional rulers as key partners in advancing the state’s agenda.

According to the governor, Grade ‘A’ Obas received Toyota Fortuner 2025 models, while Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ Obas will soon receive Toyota Cross 2025 units, ensuring fairness and uniformity in the gesture across all categories of monarchs.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the move goes beyond simply providing vehicles — it reflects honour, respect, and a conscious effort to support the traditional institution as a pillar of governance in the state.

He reminded the audience that within his first year in office, his administration completed the long-stalled secretariat for the Council of Obas and sustained the statutory five-per-cent allocation for traditional councils from local government funds.

Officials commend initiative, call for continued unity

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, praised the initiative, describing the SUV presentation as a testament to the governor’s appreciation for the vital roles traditional rulers play in fostering peace and stability.

He highlighted that monarchs have consistently supported government programmes, mediating conflicts and championing community-based development efforts.

Takuro encouraged the beneficiaries to use the vehicles effectively to enhance their duties, assuring them that the state government remains committed to building a stronger working relationship with the traditional institution.

In his closing remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa once again thanked the royal fathers for their steadfast cooperation, reaffirming that the government holds their contribution to cultural preservation and grassroots governance in the highest regard.

He called for continued partnership as Ondo State pursues growth, stability, and cultural pride, emphasising that traditional rulers will always remain an integral part of the state’s development blueprint.
